Port of Everett Modifies Outdoor Movie Series, Announces First-Ever Drive-in Theater at Waterfront Place

Everett, Wash. – The Port of Everett, with the support of our valued community sponsors, is transforming its 5th Annual Sail-in Cinema outdoor movie series to the first-ever drive-in theater at Waterfront Place. The FREE, family-friendly program maintains its summer Friday night slot at the Port’s Boxcar Park, running July 17 thru August 21.

The program has been adapted this year to reflect current public health and safety measures in response to COVID-19, and fully complies with Governor Inslee’s “Safe Start” Phased Reopening Plan Phase II guidance for drive-in theaters.

“Now more than ever our community is seeking opportunities to safety recreate with their families,” said Port of Everett CEO Lisa Lefeber. “Our hope with revisioning this event is to deliver that type of quality public access experience here at the Port, and to hopefully restore a small sense of normalcy at the waterfront for those ready to join us.”

2020 Movie Lineup:

  • July 17: Midway - 9:10 p.m.
  • July 24: Hitch - 9:05 p.m.
  • July 31: A League of Their Own - 8:55 p.m.
  • Aug. 7: The Avengers: End Game - 8:45 p.m.
  • Aug. 14: Coco - 8:30 p.m.

This year the movie series offers drive-in viewing only (limited space, reservation required), with a staggered vehicle layout to accommodate physical distancing and best viewing of the 40-foot inflatable screen. Walk-in park viewing has been suspended for 2020, and the revised layout limits boater viewing from the Port’s North Docks, which has been a fun feature in previous years.

As a new addition to the cinema this year, the Port has partnered up with Anthony’s Restaurants to host FINN, the traveling food truck, out at Boxcar Park on movie nights. The Port also encourages movie goers to support local waterfront restaurants now offering dine in and pre-order take out options to grab on your way to the movies.
